ADMIRALTY EasyTide is the most comprehensive tidal prediction service on the Web, providing tidal data for over 7,000 ports worldwide, together with a host of other useful information. After gathering a considerable amount of user feedback and conducting a product review, the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) will be taking steps to simplify the tidal product portfolio by improving the design and ease-of-use of EasyTide.

What is changing?

Body

As part of this simplification, EasyTide will become a free-to-use service for the current day plus subsequent six days' tidal predictions for UK port locations from September 2021. Once the new site is launched, Enhanced Predictions will no longer be available. As such, users of the Enhanced Predictions functionality are encouraged to use the existing Ticket Books ('V Tickets') and One-off purchase tickets available in their account by 31 August 2021 or contact Customer Services to request a refund.

The design of ADMIRALTY EasyTide will be modernised to improve ease-of-use and will be updated to support leisure users to continue to enjoy the current day plus subsequent six days' tidal predictions - including lunar phases - for safer use of the sea in activities such as water sports, beach going, coastal walking and sailing.

What to do next

Body

Users of Enhanced Predictions are encouraged to use their purchased tickets by 31 August 2021 or to contact Customer Services to request a refund. Please note that refunds may take up to 30 days to be processed. There are also several alternatives to the Enhanced Predictions service through the UKHO's other tidal products, both for leisure and commercial users.

Leisure users looking for longer-range predictions can use the ADMIRALTY Tidal Prediction Service, where long-range forecasts are available to purchase as PDFs. Commercial users may also be interested in ADMIRALTY UK Tidal APIs or ADMIRALTY TotalTide.

FAQs

Why is UKHO changing EasyTide and removing Enhanced Predictions?

Following an extensive consultation period with users, the EasyTide service is being redesigned to make relevant tidal information more accessible.

This will simplify UKHO's tidal product portfolio and improve ease-of-use for users. The new site will be optimised to work across a range of mobile devices, helping leisure users to obtain tidal predictions (both in a tabular format and harmonic curve) where and when they need it.

While Enhanced Predictions are being removed from EasyTide, our Tides Team would be happy to provide historical or future predictions. Please contact customerservices@ukho.gov.uk.

Do I have to do anything different to access EasyTide?

The new version of ADMIRALTY EasyTide will go live on the ADMIRALTY website from September 2021.

As part of this transition, the design of ADMIRALTY EasyTide will be updated to support leisure users to continue to enjoy the current day plus subsequent six days' tidal predictions for safer use of the sea in activities such as water sports, beach going, coastal walking and sailing.

I'm a current user. What happens to my existing tickets?

As EasyTide is becoming a free-to-use service, Enhanced Predictions will no longer be available at the time of the new site launch. As such, we encourage users to use their existing vTicket Books and One-off purchase tickets available in their account prior to 31st August 2021

While Ticket books are no longer available to purchase, Enhanced Predictions continue to be available as one-off purchases until 31st August 2021. After this time Enhanced Predictions will be unavailable to purchase or redeem.

What alternative products does the UKHO provide to Enhanced Predictions?

The UKHO provides alternatives to Enhanced Predictions through other tidal products, including the following:

  • Tidal Prediction Service (TPS): For users seeking long-range tidal forecasts, TPS enables them to purchase current year+2 for UK tidal stations in a range of formats.
  • UK Tidal APIs: For those looking to integrate tidal information into their own platforms, the UKHO's range of Discovery, Foundation and Premium APIs are available to access through the website.
  • ADMIRALTY TotalTide: For users looking for a more detailed analysis of tides along their international routes, the TotalTide desktop application is available to purchase through ADMIRALTY distributors.
  • Leisure Charts: For leisure yachtsmen, motorboat cruisers, ocean racing skippers and other leisure mariners seeking to maintain safety of life at sea, the UKHO offers a wide range of Leisure Charts, which also feature detailed tidal information. Find our more information about our Leisure Charts.

What UK Tidal APIs does the UKHO offer?

The UKHO provides the ADMIRALTY Tidal API with three usage tiers: Discovery, Foundation and Premium. The mid-range Foundation tier offers 14 (current +13) day predictions for 607 tidal stations around the UK. Find out more about UK Tidal API.

What can I do if I need tide times for longer than 7-day time periods?

The extensive consultation period with users showed that the most common need was for 7-day tidal predictions ('current day plus six'). While long-range forecasts will not be included in the new ADMIRALTY EasyTide, such predictions are available through our Tidal Prediction Service (TPS).

TPS allows users to request annual tidal predictions for UK tidal stations, available for the current year plus the following two years, in a PDF format. These can be customised to display as times and heights of high and low waters, hourly heights or 10-minute heights. These range from £38-£45 (excluding VAT) per unit, depending on volume.

While historical and long-range forecasts will not be included in the new ADMIRALTY EasyTide site, any custom predictions, including non-UK locations are available through the UKHO's tides team, which can be reached on tides@ukho.gov.uk.

How can I obtain historical tidal information?

While historical and long-range forecasts will not be included in the new EasyTide site, such predictions are available through our tides team. They can be reached at tides@ukho.gov.uk.

I'm unsure what this means for me. Who should I contact?
