This is an exciting opportunity to join a team working at the heart of UKHO and with exposure to all areas of the business. The Risk and Governance Manager is a key role which provides expert advice on effective enterprise risk management to enable risks to be appropriately identified, managed, reported and escalated. You will play an integral role in providing assurance over the controls in place to manage the risks within tolerance. This ensures risks inform decision making and supports successful delivery of our corporate and business plans.

The UK Hydrographic Office is a leading centre for hydrography, providing marine geospatial data to inform maritime decisions. We work with a wide range of data suppliers and partners to support safe and secure navigation of the seas and marine development around the UK and worldwide.

Job description

Body
  • The overall process in relation to how we manage risk within the UKHO, including being the Risk Management Lead and liaising with stakeholders and senior managers (including the Executive Leadership Team - ELT) across the business;
  • Reporting escalated risks to ELT and Audit Risk & Assurance Committee (ARAC);
  • Overseeing and maintaining our Risk Management Policies and Processes, to include its alignment to MOD and wider relevant policies, application and alignment to the audit schedules being risk based;
  • Supporting the development of the Risk Focal points through frequent mentoring as required;
  • Providing specialist advice on the management and coordination of the governance function, ensuring that all best practice processes, standards and templates for governance are developed and implemented;
  • Drive the development, implementation and support of governance; to ensure compliance; identifying where governance is not functioning appropriately all to ensure effective and efficient operation of the UKHO.
  • Assist the Head of Business Assurance in maintaining the assurance heatmap.

Person specification

Body

Specific Technical/Functional Skills and Experience. 

  • IRM Enterprise risk management professional qualification and/or 3/5 years’ experience leading on risk and risk management is essential
  • Knowledge of UKHO and/or UKHO MOD risk policy/process (JSP892) an advantage
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Ability to work with staff at all levels (including non-executive and executive level directors) and represent the UKHO professionally at meetings with external parties
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • We are seeking a motivated individual to join the with the following characteristics:
  • The ability to organise and prioritise work;
  • Excellent numeracy and literacy skills in order to undertake a range of tasks;
  • Knowledge and skills of using technology e.g. Word, Excel, MS Teams, PowerPoint, SharePoint & Power BI;
  • Ability to produce accurate work with a high level of detail;
  • Good communication and influencing skills
  • The ability to adapt to and embrace change. Team working
