Important information about changes to chart presentation
The UKHO is changing how some ADMIRALTY Standard Nautical Charts (SNCs) are produced. As a result, there are some changes to how information is shown on affected charts.
Some new edition SNCs will now be produced using official ADMIRALTY Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) data. This means certain chart features may look different from previous editions.
These charts remain official, safe and compliant.
Each affected chart will include a reference to this page. Charts without this reference are not affected.
For full details of the changes, please see the guide below.
Introduction of updated charts
The updated production method will be introduced through New Editions of selected charts.
Each affected chart will include a reference to this information page, enabling users to understand the changes relevant to that chart. Charts without this reference are not affected.
Future Notices to Mariners (NMs) will apply to the revised chart in the usual way, ensuring corrections remain straightforward to apply.
We are changing how some ADMIRALTY Standard Nautical Charts are produced so they can be created directly from official ENC data.
This helps make chart production more consistent while keeping charts safe, compliant and up to date.
The changes relate to how information is shown on the chart. They do not affect safety or compliance.
Yes. ADMIRALTY Standard Nautical Charts derived from ENC data remain official UKHO charts and continue to meet applicable safety and compliance requirements.
The updated production method will initially be applied to a limited number of New Editions within UK waters. This phased introduction allows us to ensure consistency and operational robustness before wider implementation.
Only charts that include a reference to this information page reflect the updated production method.
All charts affected will contain a chart note with a link to this page.
