Frequently asked questions
How should this tool be used?
This experience is an educational resource created by the UKHO to raise awareness and further understanding of the S-100 standards. While it includes some screenshots of real-world data, the animations are intended for illustrative purposes only.
What are the timelines for implementing S-100 data?
From 2029, all new ECDIS installed (including retrofits) must be capable of displaying S-101 ENCs, as outlined by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) performance standards. S-101 ENCs will be introduced and displayed alongside existing S-57 charts to ensure a smooth transition.
Why does this matter to me?
S-100 could offer mariners more accurate, detailed and interoperable data to support efficient navigation, safety and decision-making. To keep up to date with the latest information on S-100 ahead of this transition, subscribe for the latest news and insights.
